China Everbright International (HKSE: 00257), a Hong Kong headquartered environmental services firm, has completed construction of the 1500 tonne per day Wujiang waste to energy project in Jiangsu Province and commenced operations.

The company said that the RMB890 million ($131 million) facility is equipped with two self-developed 750 tonne per day grate furnaces and two 18MW turbine power generators.

Gas emissions are said to fully comply with the Euro 2010 Standard and the project is expected to generate more than 180,000 MWh of electricity annually.

Everbright added that the 750 t/d grate furnace is China's first domestically built large-scale grate furnace and has filled a void in the manufacturing of large-scale household waste incineration equipment in the country.

The grate furnaces are claimed to include a highly automated system with a high degree of control, the ability to process various kinds of waste, efficient incineration and effective utilisation of thermal energy.

"Wujiang District is moving from landfill,” commented Mr. Chen Xiaoping, CEO of Everbright International.

He added that the district is also increasing recycling and reuse of household waste

And that that Wujiang Project will act as a national demonstration base for environmental protection education.

“It will set an example as a first-class landmark environmental protection project in China which blends in with Jiangsu's natural environment and Wujiang's beautiful landscape," concluded the CEO.
