Ferrybridge 68 MW Multifuel 1 waste to energy plant fires both boiler lines

Both of the boiler lines have undergone a first fire using municipal solid waste at the Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 (FM1) project being commissioned at Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire, UK. Expected to become fully operational by the end of 2015, construction of the facility is complete with the commissioning phase under way. FM1 will be capable of generating around 68 MW of electricity using waste-derived fuels from various sources of municipal solid waste (MSW), commercial and industrial waste and waste wood. The plant will take fuels from across Yorkshire and the wider region. FM1 is owned by Multifuel Energy Limited (MEL) a joint venture between SSE and US based waste to energy company, Wheelabrator Technologies and is being built on land next to the existing Ferrybridge ‘C’ coal fired power station near Knottingley. Nicholas Vigors of Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI), the main contractor for the construction of the plant, said: “The first fire marks a major milestone and is a culmination of the hard work of everybody who has been involved in the project to date. We still have a lot of work to do in order to finish the commissioning process and bring the plant into full commercial operation, but to have completed the first fires on lines one and two is a significant achievement which should be celebrated.” ### Read more UK Firm to Install Electrics for HZI at Ferrybridge Multifuel B&W - 95MW Florida Waste to Energy Project a Sign of Things to Come in U.S. $20m Waste to Energy Deal Sealed on Caribbean’s Nevis Island
