Micro Enterprise Programme backed by Australian Government : VIDEO: UNDP Project Helping Entrepreneurs Recycle Waste into Fuel in Nepal
Following the 2015 earthquake in central Nepal and subsequent aftershocks which left around 9000 people dead and more than 22,000 injured, a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) backed initiative has been helping micro enterprises, including those recycling wastes into useful products, get off the ground.
The Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDEP), a joint poverty alleviation initiative of the government of Nepal and UNDP with financial support from Australian government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), has an established presence in seven out of the 14 most affected districts.
In the video below UNDPNEPAL explains a project which is helping entrepreneurs who are recycling waste into briquettes for energy production.
The entrepreneurs initially made the briquette manually, but received technical support such as grinders and mixers through the UNDP’s Rapid Enterprise and Livelihoods Recovery Project (RELRP) with the financial support from the Australian Aid.
The support has multiplied their efficiency for mass production of the briquette to meet the swelled demands.
