750 Staff Transfer to Waste Management : Waste Management Acquires Assets from Florida Recycling Firm SWS

Houston, Texas based waste and recycling giant, Waste Management Inc. has completed its acquisition of certain business assets of Southern Waste Systems (SWS)/Sun Recycling in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties, Florida.

Independently owned SWS collects and processes commercial and residential waste. It’s subsidiary, Sun Recycling recycles Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste.

According to the company, with this transaction its subsidiary, Waste Management Inc. of Florida, has acquired business assets which include residential, commercial, and industrial solid waste collection, processing/recycling and transfer operations, equipment, vehicles, real estate and customer agreements.

“Today marks the beginning of us bringing together two very successful, complimentary businesses and we’re excited to welcome the more than 750 talented and dedicated SWS employees to the Waste Management team,” said Tim Hawkins, area vice president, Waste Management Inc. of Florida.

“The SWS/Sun Recycling assets align perfectly with our existing operations and service offerings, and will enhance the environmental solutions we provide to our combined customers throughout South Florida.”

Waste Management (NYSE:WM) said that it plans to briefly discuss this transaction as part of its fourth quarter earnings call.

The company did not disclose the value of the transaction.
