3W Expo and Conference in Bangkok, Thailand

Hermann Koller in discussion with conference delegates Organised by ISWA's Silver Member TechnoBiz Communications Co., Ltd, an international conference and exhibition on water, wastewater and waste treatment – therefore titled as 3W Expo - took place from 29 to 31 January 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand. This event, supported by the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, attracted 111 exhibitors from 15 different countries. Almost 500 delegates participated in the conference, where more than 80 different 3W-topics were presented and discussed. ISWA's Managing Director Hermann Koller gave a keynote on Global Waste Management Perspectives and also lectured an opening speech for the session on Electric and Electronic Waste Recycling. Other sessions during this four-day conference were focusing on Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Technology; Electronic Waste Management; Membrane, Desalination and Water Treatment; Air Pollution and Odour Control; Stormwater and Crisis Management; Filtration and Separation; Municipal Solid Waste Management; Mechanical and Biological Treatment; Reuse & Zero Discharge; Industrial and Hazardous Waste Management. WEBINAR ON THE WORLD BANK GROUP'S PILOT AUCTION FACILITY One of ISWA's prominent co-operation partners is the World Bank Group, the largest anti-poverty institution which is present in over 100 developing and transitioning countries, providing consultancy, loans and other customized services. In March 2015 ISWA has been hosting a live webinar which featured the Pilot Auction Facility (PAF) for Methane and Climate Change Mitigation, recently launched by the World Bank Group. The Pilot Auction Facility is an experimental and innovative development, offering put options to guarantee a minimum price on carbon credits. This floor price guarantee is designed to be higher than today's carbon credit market price. The identification of the firms getting the put option, and the level of price guarantee will be competitively determined via an auction. The PAF's first auction is being planned for mid-2015 and will support methane mitigation projects in developing countries. Specifically, this auction will target solid waste management gas to energy and flaring projects as well as waste water treatment and agricultural waste management (including biogas) projects. By using this innovative approach the Facility will pilot a scalable model for larger flows of future climate finance. Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States have publicly pledged funding and others are expected to join them. ISWA Members were invited to join the live-streamed webinar and could provide their contributions. An introduction of the Facility and its first auction, provided by the World Bank's PAF team, was followed by an answer and questions session. The webinar was recorded and is available on www.iswa.org together with two introductory videos prepared by the World Bank Group, explaining the PAF's operating mechanism in a simple way.
