Jiangyin Project Phase III & Jiangsu Suqian Food Waste Treatment Projects : Everbright Contract for 25MW Waste to Energy Plant & Food Waste Facility in China

China Everbright International (HKSE: 00257) has signed a supplementary agreement for phase III of a household waste to energy project with Jiangyin Public Utility Management Bureau, Jiangsu Province, as well as a contract to build and operate the Jiangsu Suqian Food Waste Treatment Project.

The company explained that the Jiangyin Project Phase III will be constructed on a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) basis with a concession period of 30 years.

The plant will have a capacity to process 1000 tonnes of household waste per day and will be equipped with two 500 tonne/day furnaces and a 25MW generator. The total investment of Jiangyin Project Phase III was said to be approximately RMB580 million ($88 million).

According to Everbrght, all gas emissions will fully comply with the Euro 2000 Standard and the waste to energy plant is expected to generate approximately 105,000 MWh of electricity annually.

The Jiangyin Project Phase I and II commenced operation in 2008 and 2011 respectively with a total designed daily household waste processing capacity of 1200 tonnes.

In addition, Everbright said that it has won the bid for the Jiangsu Suqian Food Waste Treatment Project - one of the 15 PPP pilot projects in Jiangsu Province. Everbright will hold an equity interest of 80% and the Suqian Municipal Government will hold a 20% equity interest.

The food waste plant will be constructed on a BOT basis with a concession period of 30 years and has a daily processing capacity of 200 tonnes. Phase I has a designed with a capacity of 100 tonnes. The company said that the total investment is approximately RMB79 million ($12 million).

Mr. Chen Xiaoping, CEO of Everbright International, said that since entering the environmental protection market in Jiangsu Province in 2006 the company has secured projects in a total of 19 counties and cities in the province, including Suzhou, Jiangyin, Suqian, Changzhou, Yixing and Wujiang.

“Following its early focus on waste to energy projects, the Group has diversified into a wider range of environmental protection projects such as photovoltaic energy, hazardous waste treatment, biomass integrated utilisation, food waste treatment and waste water treatment etc.,” he added.

"Through twelve years working in environmental protection, the Group has established projects in over 70 cities in 14 provinces in China, and also in Germany,” he continued.

“As we enter the 13th Five-year period, given the government’s support for the environmental protection sector and the importance given to environmental restoration by society, Everbright International will embrace an expanding market and many opportunities to develop,” concluded the CEO.
