IoT technologies are playing a key role in waste management, enabling improvements in tracking and operational processes, addressing inefficiencies, and reducing costs. From 4th to 7th November, Innovation4Waste will be at Ecomondo 2025, the Italian Exhibition Group event now in its 28th edition, which has established itself as a benchmark in Europe and the Mediterranean basin for the green, blue and circular economy.

Innovation4Waste is the new Partitalia brand that develops IoT solutions for waste collection using advanced technologies, optimising collection, quality and traceability of waste deliveries, with more than 2,400 clients across Europe and worldwide, and over 15,000 connected devices. At the Rimini Expo Centre – Hall C5, Booth 407 – the company will present the “Smart Waste Management System”, a comprehensive ecosystem of Cloud-based IoT solutions designed to transform waste management in the smart city, addressing the needs of a wide range of operational scenarios.

Data collection in door-to-door waste collection with IoT solutions

Innovation4Waste’s ‘connected’ solutions for curbside waste collection ensure traceability of waste delivery and the automatic, reliable collection of data, enabling the correct application of incentive systems such as PAYT (Pay-As-You-Throw).

The BlackIP vehicle-mounted RFID reader is designed for waste collection vehicles. It is high-powered, stand-alone and resistant to shocks, vibrations and harsh weather conditions. It enables the automatic and precise reading of the RFID tag – uniquely associated with the user – during the emptying of bags or bins into the vehicle’s body, with a reading range of up to 8 metres.

An absolute novelty to be unveiled at Ecomondo is Smart Truck Obu, the On-Board Unit equipped with artificial intelligence for fleet management. The OBU is capable of processing data directly on the vehicle, ensuring that AI applications remain active at all times, even in areas without network coverage or where the connection is unstable. Among its various features are real-time analysis of vehicle status, the detection of potholes and road obstacles with the ability to send alerts, and automatic route recalculation in the event of unforeseen circumstances. Smart Truck Obu can also be paired with the Android Touch Screen Monitor, providing full visibility of information.

Completing the solution is the Keasyboard, an eight-button keypad designed to report up to eight types of anomalies.

At the Rimini Expo Centre, there will also be the new Discovery Mobile. Featuring a renewed design and equipped with a high-power UHF antenna, this wearable device for waste collectors allows automatic, filtered and hands-free reading of RFID tags applied to bags and bins in curbside collection, without altering the work process and without installation costs.

IoT to optimise waste collection

Innovation4Waste is also committed to enhancing the efficiency of waste collection from a logistical perspective, to reduce operating costs and environmental impact.

Among the company’s solutions is Asset Track-ID, the IoT system for tracking waste collection roll-off containers, which ensures the rapid localisation of lost, abandoned or unused containers, preventing replacement costs and ensuring more efficient asset management.

Also included are solutions for waste collection, cloud-connected to track and certify waste management in urban settings. Among these is ID-Access, the intelligent electronic lock for roadside containers of 1100 litres and above, which restricts access to authorised users only, preventing illegal disposal. And SmartLevel Matrix, the smart optical sensor that enables ultra-precise detection of the fill level of litter bins and waste containers.

This makes it possible to better plan collection operations, reducing unnecessary pick-ups and making the overall management of waste more efficient, with fewer vehicle trips, less urban traffic congestion and, consequently, lower CO₂ emissions.

With an offering that ranges from traceability to advanced logistics management, Innovation4Waste positions itself as a strategic partner for public administrations and companies looking to modernise their waste collection services, making them more efficient, sustainable, and compliant with the latest environmental regulations.
