Profilglass SpA, based in Fano (Italy), is a leading European manufacturer of aluminum flat products, pipes and profiles, with an annual production exceeding 250,000 tons. Recycling is central to its operations, with around 80% of furnace input coming from aluminum scrap.

To ensure consistent melt quality at high throughput, Profilglass relies on SGM technologies integrated across its recycling lines. The plant operates 14 ferrous separators, 8 eddy current separators and 12 X-ray sorting systems supplied by SGM.

The high throughput of SGM X-ray Transmission sorters enables the removal of heavy metals in a single pass, improving control of furnace input.

To further treat the fraction rejected by the XRT due to high heavy-metal content, Profilglass installed two SGM X-ray sorters combining Fluorescence and Transmission technologies. These systems allow additional recovery of valuable metals from material otherwise destined to lower-value applications.

This long-term cooperation reflects a practical approach to improving efficiency and maximising value recovery from aluminum scrap.
