Second Solid Waste Contract in Broward County for Sun Bergeron

12 November 2012 Davie, Florida based waste management company, Sun Bergeron has secured a five year solid waste disposal contract from its home town in Broward County. The company said that Davie has became the second municipality in Broward County to take advantage of the competitive and transparent procurement process undertaken by the City of Miramar to award Sun Bergeron its Solid Waste Disposal contract. According to Sun Bergeron, piggy-backing on the Miramar contract will entitle the town of Davie to receive new revenue in excess of $750,000 for the total five year term of the agreement based on projected revenue share for the town at the $2 per ton rate agreed with Miramar. Miramar previously had a single contract with Wheelabrator Technologies, a subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc. (NYSE: WM). The company said that under the new contract all municipal solid waste received at the transfer station is moved from the tipping floor and into a processing system. The processable waste is sorted and all material with recyclable value is removed and separated into temporary storage bunkers. From the storage bunkers, the company said that materials are periodically removed and loaded directly into transfer and roll-off containers with recyclable materials transported directly to the end markets. Any residual waste is captured and loaded into a separate roll-off container for disposal. Sun Bergeron claimed that this method minimises the amount of waste to be incinerated or landfilled and optimises the amount to be recycled.
