Contract With Amey Secures Feedstock for Basingstoke AD Plant : Tamar Contract to Produce Biogas from Isle of Wight’s Food Waste
UK anaerobic digestion project developer Tamar Energy has signed a contract to process 5000 tonnes of food waste per year from the Isle of Wight at its Basingstoke anaerobic digestion plant.
Under the contract food waste collected by waste management and public services firm Amey will be used to produce biogas for renewable energy generation, as well fertiliser.
Charlie Flounders, Tamar Energy’s head of feedstock said that the contract is a “demonstration that AD is a genuine waste management option for local authorities that delivers tangible financial and environmental benefits”.
Tamar added that it also works with a number of local authorities including Essex County Council and Hampshire County Council, to secure food waste feedstock for its facilities. ensuring that household food and green waste is extracted from the residual waste stream and recycled into renewable energy and biofertiliser.
In addition to its Basingstoke AD plant, Tamar Energy has AD plants in Halstead, Essex; Holbeach, Lincs; Retford, Notts; and Hoddesdon, Herts.
