As Saudi Arabia accelerates its circular economy ambitions under Vision 2030, European technology providers are bringing advanced digital solutions to revolutionise the Kingdom's municipal services infrastructure.

The inaugural IFAT Saudi Arabia event in Riyadh later this month will showcase how Internet of Things platforms are reshaping refuse collection and resource recovery across the region. Among the exhibitors bringing proven technology to the Middle Eastern market is Innovation4Waste, Partitalia's specialised IoT brand, which will demonstrate its comprehensive digital ecosystem for municipal operations at Stand 3E44.

Regional transformation drives technology demand

Saudi Arabia's environmental infrastructure is undergoing significant modernisation as part of the government's 2016 Vision 2030 economic diversification programme. With annual refuse generation exceeding 110 million tonnes, the Kingdom has established ambitious targets: achieving 91% source separation and diverting 90% of all materials from landfill disposal by 2040.

This transformation creates substantial market opportunities for technology providers offering practical solutions to municipal challenges. "Traceability is the first step in ensuring that waste becomes a resource," explains Marco Bavastrelli, Sales Manager at Innovation4Waste. "Our ecosystem of IoT solutions, integrated into the Cloud, is designed to optimise waste management by addressing various operational scenarios, increasing efficiency, and supporting the principles of the circular economy."

Vehicle-mounted systems enable real-time operations management

The company's technology portfolio addresses multiple operational requirements through integrated hardware and cloud analytics. For collection vehicles, stand-alone RFID readers operate in extreme conditions while automatically recording and certifying each receptacle emptying. These units ensure operational transparency and create verifiable collection records.

The system can be enhanced with the eight-key Keasyboard, which combines GPS/GLONASS positioning with 4G connectivity. This integration enables precise location pairing with every scan and facilitates immediate data transmission to cloud platforms for operations management.

Fleet managers seeking advanced vehicle intelligence can deploy the Smart Truck Obu, a latest-generation On-Board Unit compatible with Artificial Intelligence applications. Equipped with optional Android touchscreen monitors, these units process data directly onboard, delivering real-time vehicle diagnostics, obstacle reporting, and dynamic route recalculation when operational conditions change.

Container intelligence optimises collection logistics

Beyond vehicle systems, Innovation4Waste's platform digitises receptacle infrastructure to enable data-driven collection scheduling. The Asset Track-ID system monitors skip container locations, enabling rapid recovery of displaced or underutilised equipment.

SmartLevel Matrix optical sensors deliver precise fill-level detection for street receptacles and larger containers, allowing municipalities to schedule service based on actual capacity rather than fixed routes. This approach reduces unnecessary vehicle movements and associated operational expenses.

The ID-Access cloud-connected control system manages user disposal through authorised access protocols, ensuring accountability while maintaining detailed usage records for municipal planning.

At IFAT Saudi Arabia, the company will showcase Asset Track-ID for tracking waste collection skip containers, ensuring the rapid localisation of lost or underutilised assets, and SmartLevel Matrix, an optical sensor that accurately detects the fill level of street bins and containers, allowing emptying to be scheduled only when necessary.

Middle Eastern expansion continues

"We already have two active projects in Qatar and Abu Dhabi," concludes Bavastrelli. "With IFAT Saudi Arabia, we are strengthening our presence in the Middle East, a strategic market where we see growing attention towards innovative and sustainable solutions for waste management and smart cities."

The company's participation at IFAT Saudi Arabia, running from 26 to 28 January at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Centre, marks another step in establishing European technology standards throughout the Gulf region's rapidly evolving environmental services sector.
