The waste management sector has witnessed a significant consolidation move as Vecoplan AG, the internationally recognized supplier of shredding and processing machinery for plastics, has acquired Pla.to GmbH from Görlitz. This strategic takeover transforms the dry cleaning and washing technology specialist into a wholly-owned subsidiary, positioning Vecoplan as a comprehensive solution provider in the plastic recycling value chain.

From partnership to full integration in polymer recovery

The relationship between Vecoplan and Pla.to spans several years of collaboration and joint project implementations. What began as a strategic partnership has evolved into complete integration, reflecting the growing importance of cleaning technologies in modern waste processing operations.

"Thanks to this takeover, we're now in a position to offer our customers a complete process portfolio in plastics recycling, from conveyor technology to shredding and the cleaning process," explains Martina Schmidt, Senior Vice President Recycling at Vecoplan. The acquisition enables the company to provide end-to-end solutions, eliminating the need for customers to coordinate multiple suppliers across different processing stages.

Advancing plastic waste treatment through dry-cleaning innovation

The integration comes at a crucial time when dry cleaning technology is experiencing rapid development within the recycling industry. Schmidt notes that "In recent years, dry cleaning has developed from an initial step to become the core product of a modern cleaning process. By integrating Pla.to, we can now play an active role in shaping this development."

Dry cleaning represents a significant advancement in waste processing efficiency, removing impurities through mechanical processes without requiring large water quantities. This approach produces extrudable flakes ready for immediate processing, making it an increasingly valuable resource-saving solution in the industry.

Beyond dry cleaning, Pla.to's comprehensive portfolio encompasses complete state-of-the-art washing technology, including wet cleaning with friction and intensive scrubbers, providing flexibility across different material types and contamination levels.

Enhancing recycling operations with advanced testing capabilities

Vecoplan's approach to optimising cleaning processes centres on its in-house "Cleanikum" facility in Neunkhausen, where different materials undergo comprehensive testing. This facility enables the company to address individual customer requirements by testing various processes, settings, and system technologies under real operational conditions.

The Cleanikum serves as a quality assurance hub, ensuring optimal cleaning solutions are determined for each material batch before systems are deployed at customer sites. This testing capability becomes particularly valuable as the subsidiary expands its reach into international markets.

Strengthening market position through strategic growth

The acquisition maintains Pla.to's operational base in Görlitz while leveraging Vecoplan's international project management capabilities and comprehensive service infrastructure. Customers will benefit from enhanced digital solutions developed by both organisations, while the combined innovative capacity of both companies drives future development.

"We're delighted about the great synergies that will result from this joint step," says Heinz Schnettler, Managing Director of Pla.to Technology. "We want to grow; we want to open up international markets together and prove that one plus one can definitely add up to more than two! Together, with the strength of Vecoplan and our proven product quality, we'll invest even more in innovation and market presence."

The integration plans include expanding the portfolio with a new, larger series of dry cleaning systems. Industry professionals will have the opportunity to see the largest dry cleaner ever manufactured by Pla.to at the upcoming K trade fair in Düsseldorf, where Vecoplan will showcase this advancement.

Full-service provider status in material recovery

With Pla.to as its subsidiary, Vecoplan AG solidifies its position as a comprehensive service provider in plastic recycling operations. This acquisition represents a strategic milestone in the company's growth strategy, enabling it to address the complete spectrum of plastic waste processing requirements.

The move reflects broader industry trends toward integrated solutions as waste management operations seek to optimise efficiency and reduce coordination complexity across multiple processing stages. By offering everything from conveyor technology to final cleaning processes under one organisational umbrella, Vecoplan positions itself to capitalise on the growing demand for streamlined recycling solutions.

This consolidation in the plastic recycling equipment sector demonstrates the maturation of waste processing technologies and the industry's movement toward comprehensive, single-source solutions for complex material recovery operations.
