Northern Irish waste management firm RiverRidge has taken delivery of three more specially designed Macpac 110 food waste collection vehicles to its fleet which now sits at over 150 vehicles, and more than doubles its food recycling capacity.

Supplied by SC Rentals, the Macpac 110, has a capacity of 11m3, the height of the vehicle is 3.3m, with an overall width of 2.3m. The compaction ratio is 3:1 and the compaction cycle is controlled by a hydraulic pressure signal to return solenoid operated hydraulic control. It also uses Macpac’s own integrated side loading bin lift.

Legislation set out by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency means that all businesses that generate more than 5kg of food waste must have a separate food waste collection, and are responsible of ensuring that the necessary arrangements to dispose of their waste are made.

“In order to help evolve RiverRidge’s food waste collection strategy, we have added an additional three MacPac 110S vehicles to our fleet,” explained Tony Kirkpatrick, Transport and Logistics Director of RiverRidge. “These vehicles are specifically designed for the collection of food waste.”

“Demand for this service is growing as more businesses are realising the commercial benefits of diverting food waste from landfill in terms of reduced waste costs, alongside the need to comply with legislation from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency,” he contined.

Based across four sites in Belfast, Coleraine, Derry-Londonderry and Portadown, RiverRidge said that it has the ability to service 95% of Northern Ireland’s postcodes directly, allowing it to become an essential part of a business’s waste management strategy.

“Adding these vehicles to our fleet along with a full repair and maintenance package from SC Rentals allows RiverRidge to maintain our high level of service to all our customers across Northern Ireland,” said Kirkpatrick.

The MacPac food waste vehicles have an on-board weighing system, which allows operators to know exactly what each bin weighs and also the total weight in the vehicle.

The vehicles have been manufactured by MacPac Refuse Bodies in County Antrim and purchased by SC Rentals, who lease the vehicles to RiverRidge.

“SC Rentals is delighted to supply another three MacPac 110 food waste vehicles to RiverRidge. This brings their number of MacPacs to five in total. For a professional company such as RiverRidge to show confidence in the service we provide and indeed the MacPac product, which of course is a product manufactured in Northern Ireland, brings us great satisfaction,” commented SC Rentals manager, Liam Regan.

Tony Kirkpatrick concluded “It is our responsibility to help our customers meet legislation by offering a cost-effective and efficient food waste management service, the new additions to our fleet will help guarantee this service.”
