Shanks wins 8m waste, recycling and sweeping contracts in Belgium

Municipal waste management company Shanks has won two contracts worth a total of €8 million in the City of Liege, Belgium. The double win will come as positive news after financial results showed a post-tax loss of £18.2 million (read WMW story). The first contract was an eight-year renewable of a household waste collection contract with the City of Liege, which the company has held for the past 25 years. Under the contract, Shanks will manage the collection of all the residual waste from the city’s 200,000 people. Recyclates will be separated and the remaining waste will be used to generate energy. Additionally, Shanks secured a public cleaning services contract with the City of Liege, to empty public waste bins and provide mechanical sweeping of public roads. The waste management company said it expects both contracts to work in conjunction with each other. Earlier this week the company launched its first Green Bond Issue in Belgium and Luxembourg in a bid to raise up to €150 million (read WMW story). ### Read more Challenging European markets blamed for waste management firm Shanks’ £18.2m loss €3.75 hazardous waste facility acquisition for Shanks in the Netherlands
