AU$87m Purchase Brings 760,000 New Customers : SUEZ Acquires Australian Waste & Recycling Firm Perthwaste

French environmental services firm, SUEZ, has continued its development in the Australian market with the AU$87 million ($65 million) acquisition of waste and recycling firm, Perthwaste.

in 2001, SUEZ explained that Perthwaste is well established in the Perth metropolitan area and in south-west Western Australia, with numerous local authorities contracts.

The company services around of 760,000 people and industrials and was said to boast extensive infrastructure assets, including two waste transfer stations, two materials recycling facilities, three depots, a landfill, an organics composting facility and a fleet of 68 waste collection trucks.

It currently employs 185 people and according to SUEZ should generate a revenue over $AU50 million ($38 million) in 2016 .

SUEZ added that the acquisition will form a close fit with its existing waste collection, recycling and reuse solutions for local authorities and industry in Western Australia, allowing the Group to strengthen its foothold on a promising market.

“The activities of Perthwaste and SUEZ form a very close fit,” commented

Marie-Ange Debon, senior executive vice president in charge of the International Division of SUEZ.

“The united strengths of the combined waste management facilities, fleet and experienced people will speed up our growth and business development in this high-potential market,” she added.

The acquisition is subject to the approval of the Australian Foreign Investment Review Board and the Competition and Consumer Commission.
