B&M Waste Services Developing 1m RDF Plant Manchester Recycling Facility

Independent UK waste and recycling firm, B&M Waste Services is investing £1 million in a facility to produce Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) at its site in Trafford Park, Manchester. The company, which is headquarter in Wirral, North West England, said that it has signed a contract with a major German utility company, under which it will export the RDF produced on the site for use at waste to energy facility in Germany. The facility, set to open this spring, will process commercial waste with materials such as cardboard, wood and metals recycled. B&M explained that the residual, non-recyclable waste is processed, compacted into bales, then wrapped and transported to the Combined Heat and Power facility in Germany. According to the company, the addition of an RDF producing facility at the site will create five additional jobs. “We are now contracted to deliver significant quantities of RDF to an established German utility provider, commented Neil Curtis, director at B&M. “This in turn will improve our customers’ environmental credentials by providing a real alternative to fossil fuels and a reduced reliance on landfill,” he continued. The company added that the RDF production process is implemented through its ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and that it has operated as a carbon neutral business since 2010 when it achieved the Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2060.
