Bra Recycling Charity Goes for Bust with Bra Painting Party in Arizona
Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona based charity, The Bra Recyclers, is to host a bra painting party to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Society of Mesa and to promote the idea of recycling gently used or unused bras. "While most people are familiar with the concept of recycling aluminium cans and paper products, they may not be aware of the importance of recycling bras and other textiles," explains Elaine Birks-Mitchell, CEO of the Bra Recyclers. The charity added that many women have bras in their drawers that never quite fit right or are hardly worn, and asked why those ill-fitting, inappropriate, or seldom worn bras shouldn’t be put to good use by recycling them? The Brazaar Art Paint Your Bra Party, which will be held on Wednesday, February 11 will be held at Wine and Design, 2929 Power Rd, Mesa. According to the organisers there will be creative and supportive staff members on hand to guide both novices and experts. The price of admission is $40. The Bra Recyclers will be making a donation to the Breast Cancer Society from the proceeds of the event. "The average person throws away 70 pounds of clothing each year when 95% of textiles can be recycled,” commented Birks-Mitchell. “For example, recycled bras can benefit women and girls who cannot afford this simple lingerie staple that is considered a luxury item in their eyes,” she continued. “In fact, bras are one of the most requested items in shelters. That's why we host events like this one, to educate people as well as to give women an opportunity to come out and release their inner 'bra-volous' by beautifying bras for a good cause. It's all about the girls!" The Bra Recyclers said that the inspiration for the event is an art piece is from local artist Dina Petruzzi, titled Infinite Flame. Participants can choose to enter their painted bras in the Brazaar Art Showcase in October for over $500 in prizes.
