Storq Fashion Store Partners with 2ReWear : Clothing Recycling Program for Chic San Francisco Maternity Wear Retailer
Storq, a San Francisco based maternity clothing specialist, has partnered with Clifton, New Jersey based clothing reuse and recycling firm and registered public benefit corporation, 2ReWear, to launch a closed loop maternity wear recycling program.
According to the retailer its maternity wear recycling program allows its customers to recycle their pre-loved mother-to-be clothing responsibly, and also to help raise funds for charity.
closes the loop on sustainability with their consumer apparel recycling program. Storq offers maternity essentials in easy-to-shop bundles that keep expecting mamas looking and feeling like themselves.
“2ReWear is delighted to partner with Storq and help expand textile diversion for this very special segment,” said Eric Stubin, 2ReWear CEO. The fashion industry generates 30 billion pounds (13.6million metric tonnes) of textiles each year and 85% of those textiles are thrown out.”
According to Stubin the average American throws out 81 pounds (37 kg) of textiles each year, which equates to 25 billion pounds (11.3 million metric tonnes) of textiles sent to landfill annually. He added that current textile recycling efforts in the U.S. only capture 15% of what could have recycled.
Hold the Ritual Bonfire!
Storq began after co-founder Courtney Klein discover that her pregnant friends were frustrated from the lack of quality, stylish maternity clothing options.
When creating Storq’s line Klein consulted with doctors, doulas, herbalists and beauty experts to carefully select products with low Environmental Working Group (EWG) ratings without compromising efficacy or style.
Proceeds from the maternity wear items being returned for reuse will go to Circle of Health International and in return those donating will receive a $25 gift certificate towards a future Storq order.
“Instead of burning your old pregnancy attire in a ritual bonfire, we’ve partnered with Re2Wear to help you recycle it,” commented Klein.
