Concrete Firm Supplies 20,000 Cubic Metres to Viridors 30 MW Cardiff Waste to Energy Plant
London, UK based concrete and construction materials supplier, Hope Construction Materials (HCM), has supplied more than 20,000m3 of concrete to Viridor’s 30 MW Trident Park waste to energy facility in Cardiff, Wales. Construction work on the project commenced in April 2012 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. HCM explained that the concrete was supplied to contractor Lagan Construction, with a range of bespoke mixes used to create the piling, foundations and structure. The largest single pour was 800m3 supplied to the site over a 13-hour period. Once operational the waste to energy facility will treat around 350,000 tonnes of residual waste which has had recyclable material removed. In order to meet the tight deadlines HCM said that it supplied the concrete from its Cardiff concrete plant, less than half a mile from the build, with two full-time employees on site to ensure product quality and customer service was maintained throughout. The company added that by being close to the site it was also able to minimise the carbon footprint of the build, adding to the green credentials of the project. The build is one of several current waste processing projects from a number of contractors being supplied by HCM, which said it has more than 180 sites nationwide. “Having our supply site less than a mile from the build has been invaluable in maintaining service and meeting strict deadlines, and to fulfil a massive project with minimal vehicle movements and therefore a minimal carbon footprint, is something we are particularly pleased about,” explained Marc Case of HCM. Mark Leavey, senior agent at Lagan added: “Not only has the workforce been superb but the supply of materials to site has been excellent. With more than 100 joiners, steel fixers and concrete operatives working on site at peak times, not to mention all the plant in attendance, a consistent supply of concrete was essential in ensuring each day was as efficient as possible.” Read More 30 MW Waste to Energy Facility Secures £105m Government Funding in Wales A 30 MW waste to energy facility currently under construction at Trident Park in Cardiff, Prosiect Gwyrdd has secured funding from the Welsh Government to treat residual municipal waste that cannot be recycled from Caerphilly, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Newport and the Vale of Glamorgan.
