27 MWe & 90 MWth from Paper Mill Waste : Finnish Firm Outotec Equips 450,000 TPA Waste to Energy Plant in Turkey
A new combined heat and power waste to energy facility at a paper plant in Corlu, 90km from Istanbul, Turkey has been equipped with fluidised bed technology from Espoo, Finland based Outotec.
According to the company the facility will produce 90 MWth and 27 MWe from paper residuals that would otherwise have gone to landfill.
Modern Karton, a subsidiary of Eren Holding, is a major European manufacturer of packaging paper and corrugated cardboard materials from waste paper.
The company operates several paper machines at its production facilities in Çorl. It selected Outotec to design and build a new cogeneration waste to energy plant on a turnkey basis.
The incinerator, designed by Outotec, uses by-products such as paper rejects, biological sludge and paper sludge from Modern Karton plant and produces electricity for the network and steam, which is used as energy in the paper production process.
Outotec said that the new paper residuals incineration plant complies with the strict environmental standards set by the European Union and processes 450,000 tonnes per year of residuals from paper recycling.
The fully refractory-lined fluidised bed incinerator is said to allow highly flexible operations by accepting a broad range of fuel types in terms of the feed material.
Outotec added that its open-nozzle grid configuration allows debris such as metals, glass, and stones to be removed during operation without unnecessary shutdowns.
