Commissioning Continues as First Waste Fired : First Waste Delivered to FCC’s 22 MW Waste to Energy Plant Buckinghamshire
The first delivery of waste to environmental service firm FCC’s new 300,000 tonne per year waste to energy facility in Buckinghamshire, England has taken place and the facility is now generating power.
The company explained that the Greatmoor Energy from Waste facility is part of its 30-year residual waste treatment contract with Buckinghamshire County Council.
The plant has now started treating waste as part of the commissioning process and has commenced producing energy for export to the electrical grid.
The first delivery of waste came from High Heavens Waste Transfer Station at High Wycombe, taking waste from Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe District Councils as well as some waste from Aylesbury Vale District Council.
FCC said that the Greatmoor plant will generate 22 MW of electricity – enough energy to power up to 36,000 homes.
Cllr Warren Whyte, cabinet member for planning and environment at Buckinghamshire County Council, commented: “Not only does it mean that waste is now being put to good use via the creation of energy, it will also significantly reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill.”
“This is the culmination of a long-term project to get the Energy from Waste plant up and running,” he continueud. “The project brings with it significant economic and sustainability benefits to the county and will save council tax payers more than £150 million over the life of the contract.”
