German Waste to Energy Firm FBE Rebrands Following Acquisition

German waste to energy technology manufacturer, Fisia Babcock Environment (FBE) has been renamed Steinmüller Babcock Environment following its acquisition by Japanese waste gasification technology manufacturer, NIPPON STEEL & SUMIKIN ENGINEERING (NSENGI) in May 2014. The company explained that an official name change has now taken place within the framework of this acquisition. In future, waste to energy firm Fisia Babcock Environment GmbH will operate under the name Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH (SBENG). The company's management comprises Hiroshi Murakami and Dr. Gert Riemenschneider. SBENG said that its new name is a symbol of its tradition and its international nature. The Steinmüller name has a 140 year history, which began in 1874 with the foundation of the L. & C. Steinmüller boiler factory at the site in Gummersbach. The name ‘Babcock’ is a global trademark for plant construction in the energy and environment sectors. "The first few months of collaboration have confirmed that NSENGI and SBENG have a shared understanding and pursue the same goals,” explained managing director Hiroshi Murakami. “The two companies complement each other perfectly, because the product portfolio and brand strengths of both companies can be reciprocally utilised,” he continued. “Also the existing technologies will be further developed with added value through the mutual application of knowledge and experience. We are therefore confident that we can expand our commercial activities in the future, in order to offer an even broader spectrum of top class technologies to our customers,” concluded managing director Hiroshi Murakami.
