New Danish Waste Management Association
Denmark has a powerful new waste management association - the Danish Waste Association - which has been created by the public actors in the two existing waste organisations RenoSam and Waste Denmark. The new association will represent 21 of the 26 Danish Waste-to-Energy installations, with a capacity of around 2.7 million tonnes - out of the total Danish capacity of 3.5 million tonne. The cost of waste management is about1.5 billion Euros annually and is the largest public environmental expenditure in Denmark. However, it is predicted that waste management in Denmark will face significant challenges in the coming years, with the agenda of increased resource efficiency and greening of the energy production as the two main focal points. The Danish Waste Association aims to make a positive contribution to: For Denmark to once again become an international leader in waste and resource management For the waste sector, through cooperation and development with other stakeholders, to increase resource efficiency and ensure maximum energy efficiency of the waste which cannot be recycled. According to the association's Presidents, Mads Jakobsen and Ove E. Dalsgaard, by bringing together all the municipal stakeholders in waste management, it is possible to set and respond to the agenda much more clearly and sharply.
