New Metso Shears for Swedish Metal Recycling Firm
Scandinavian recycling firm, Stena Recycling has initiated a major investment in new Metso shearing equipment for processing scrap metal. The company said that the first shear has already been installed and is fully operational at its facility in Skövde, Sweden. Over the next two years, four more shears will enter service at various locations in Sweden. According to Stena, with the capacity to process larger volumes more raw materials can be delivered to foundries and steel mills in Sweden and other markets. The company added that it has entered into a partnership with Metso to ensure optimised use of the equipment at each facility. It said that this cooperation has proved successfull in Skövde where the first Metso EtaCut shear is already installed and proving to be very effective. The new shears have a significantly higher capacity than the old ones, which are several decades old. In Stena’s Skövde recycling facility capacity has increased by 400%. The overall increase will be in the range of 150,000 to 200,000 tonnes per year by the time all the machines are operating. Stena said that the increased capacity prepares it for the future and means that it can return more raw material back into circulation for the manufacturing of new products. It added that the material being processed by the new shears secures the supply of scrap to smelters and foundries in Sweden, as well as other markets. The recycled metals will be used in the production of new engine parts and other components in the automotive industry.
