NRT Supplies Sorting Equipment for Food Grade Plastics Recycler
18 December 2012 Nashville, Tennessee-based National Recovery Technologies (NRT) is to manufacture and install five optical sorting units to purify plastic for FDA food-grade level for bottle-to-bottle production to plastics recycler Midwest Exchange. According to NRT - which was recently acquired by Eugene, Oregon based waste sorting and recycling systems manufacturer, Bulk Handling Systems (BHS) expansion will double PET production at the plant, increasing PET capacity to 9000 pounds (4080 kg) per hour. The company added that the five NRT units - a SpydIR Reflective, a SpydIR-T, a ColorPlus, a SpydIR T PET and a MetalDirector - will also create a cleaner end-product. Once installed PVC and other contaminates will be extracted, resulting in an RPET product that NRT said is clean enough to be classified as food-grade by the FDA that can be used to create food and beverage containers. NRT added that the facility provides Midwest's clients with an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to using virgin resin. "Our goal is to eliminate our country's dependency upon foreign virgin PET resin by manufacturing locally to produce recycled resin RPET from local sources of PET plastic," explained Alex Casillas, president and founder of Midwest Exchange Enterprises.
