Following this morning’s announcement from the UK government regarding the planned third runway at Heathrow Airport, Lakeside Energy from Waste Ltd intends to ensure that its facilities will be relocated.
Lakeside Energy from Waste Ltd is a joint venture between two well established resource management companies, Grundon Waste Management and Viridor.
The company’s Lakeside energy from waste facility is located on the site of the proposed third runway at Heathrow Airport and will have to be demolished if the runway is built.
The plant, together with the associated Grundon waste management and recycling facilities, would need to be demolished and relocated as part of the proposed third runway at Heathrow.
After three years of deliberation, the Airports Commission (Davies) Report, concluded the Lakeside EFW facility should be relocated, as it plays “a significant role in regional and local waste management and has a valuable capability to process clinical waste and other contaminated materials…Its replacement is necessary”.
In a statement the firm said:
“Lakeside Energy from Waste Ltd will now seek to ensure the Lakeside Energy from Waste facility – and the associated waste management and recycling facilities within the Colnbrook complex – can be relocated on a like for like basis at a nearby suitable site, with minimal disruption, as soon as possible.
“We will work closely with Heathrow Airport Ltd and the relevant local and regulatory authorities to make sure these regionally significant facilities are delivered.”
