Recycled Plastic Alternative to Imported Plywood Finds Favour in UK

6 December 2010 UK based construction company, Bovis Lend Lease UK has signed a national business wide framework agreement with EcoSheet manufacturer, 2K Manufacturing. The agreement sees the EcoSheet eSite hoarding panel, an environmentally-friendly plywood alternative made entirely from plastic waste, being named as a preferred hoarding solution on Bovis Lend Lease construction projects in place of imported plywood. Developed by 2K Manufacturing in Luton, EcoSheet is claimed to be the world's first recycled plastic plywood substitute made entirely from local recycled mixed plastic waste, and is itself 100% recyclable at end of life. Nigel McKay, Head of Procurement, Supply Chain and Quality Management, Bovis Lend Lease stated: "This exciting and innovative new product would contribute towards Bovis Lend Lease's commitment to leaving a positive legacy from the construction projects that we are involved, and having a positive effect on the environment with which we interact." Peter Ball of 2K Manufacturing explains: "Each year more than 25 million imported plywood sheets are used here in the UK which are generally not recycled and have to be land filled. EcoSheet provides an effective solution to that problem. According to 2K Manufacturin , EcoSheet could prevent the industry from sending in excess of 30,000 tonnes of waste to landfill each year. "Thanks to successful trials by forward-thinking companies such as Bovis Lend Lease, EcoSheet has been proven to outperform imported plywood not just environmentally, but commercially and operationally too. It's the obvious solution for anyone looking to reduce construction waste to landfill and back sustainable product design." Other major contractors to sign National Framework Agreements for the use of EcoSheet as hoarding on their sites include ISG Pearce and The Apollo Group.
