Recycling Bring Bin Programme Reaches 100th Sainsburys Store

Cheshire, UK based recycling company, Palm Recycling has now rolled out its programme of bright orange bring banks at 100 Sainsbury’s supermarket stores across the country. According to palm, its orange, 3.2m³ Schaefer container banks are proving to be a hit with the supermarket’s customers because they are more ‘aesthetically-pleasing’ and ‘user-friendly’. The company said that the scheme has also proved popular thanks to the accessible locations at Sainsbury’s stores making it easier for the public to recycle and driving up material recycling rates. The bring bank service provides standardised recycling containers for mixed paper and card, mixed glass, mixed plastics, mixed cans, textiles and small WEEE. The facilities are intended to complement any kerbside recycling collection schemes in the store locations, and according to Palm, have been receiving positive feedback from the general public along with measurable increases in the amount of materials being recovered. The recycler added that by taking over the operational management of the bring banks within the areas where the programme is operating it has also reduced local authority costs. “Our phase two roll-out programme of bring bank recycling centres across Sainsbury’s locations has been progressing rapidly and on-time, and it is extremely appropriate that the unveiling of the 100th store recycling centre coincides with the nationally promoted Recycle Week,” commented Ross Johnstone, business development manager at Palm Recycling. Ultimately the company said that it plans to roll the scheme out at over 300 stores across the UK.
