Recycling contract worth 4m awarded by Poundland
Retailer Poundland has appointed Helistrat to manage the company’s waste and recycling services in a five-year deal worth an estimated £4 million. The contract will see Helistrat manage the recycling services for Poundland’s entire retail estate of 500 stores in the UK and Ireland, as well as the company’s distribution centre in Harlow, Essex. Helistrat was selected following a tender process and follows its other commercial waste contracts with M&S, Ann Summers, Gatwick Airport and the Environment Agency. Harvey Laud, business development manager at Helistrat, said: “Increasing recycling rates and diverting more material from landfill will play an important role in helping Poundland control its future waste management costs and improve their environmental footprint, whilst increasing the amount of secondary resource they can incorporate in to a more sustainable supply chain for packaging.” Read more Online waste transfer notes welcomed by industry The incoming electronic duty of care (edoc) system for recording transfers of waste online has won the support of nearly 75% of large waste operators in the UK, according to the Environment Agency (EA)… Retailers hit out at complex plastic bag ban in England UK trade association, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) has come out fighting against the government’s planned 5p charge on single use plastic bags to cut waste and litter...
