Reuse Charity Shop to Open at FCC's Judkins Recycling Centre

13 August 2012 Recycling and waste to energy company, FCC Environment has partnered with a furniture reuse charity to run a shop at its Judkins Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Tuttle Hill, Nuneaton. The company said that Chapter 1's 2nd Chance Furniture Re-Use project will operate the shop at its recycling centre, with the aim of minimising the quantity of reusable items being sent for final disposal. The Second Chance Furniture Re-Use Project is part of Chapter 1, which provides accommodation and related support services to help vulnerable people and aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill while offering work-based training. According to FCC its relationship with Chapter 1 is the latest in a line of partnerships that it has struck with local and national charities for the inclusion of reuse facilities at its HWRCs. "We have seen an increasing number of people disposing of items in perfect working order, but which can be re-used in their current state," explained FCC Environment's Richard Hollidge. "Our aim is to encourage different behaviour when it comes to managing waste and to provide modern and efficient facilities where it is easy to reuse or recycle materials," he added. The company added that in preparation for launching the shop, and in order to minimise the loss of good quality items, the site now has a container where good quality discarded furniture and other household items can be redirected to the 2nd Chance showroom in Weddington Terrace, Nuneaton. The opening of the shop at Judkins HWRC is scheduled for Spring 2013. The site is owned and operated by FCC Environment on behalf of Warwickshire County Council. The company said that it is also developing a new HWRC for the county council close to the existing site, which is due to be opened in 2014/15.
