£2.6m Already Raise for Yorkshire Air Ambulance with 250 Recycling Banks : Textile Recycling Firm to Work with Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance charity

In the north of England textile recycling organisation BIU Group has signed a new agreement to help raise funds for the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance charity.

The company was founded in 2005 and to date has raised more than £8.6 million for its 23 charity partners. It is part of Textile Recycling International, one of the UK’s largest reclamation businesses that employs thousands of people processing and exporting used clothing and textiles.

The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance currently has around 25 donation banks across the region – but more are needed. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, for example, which has worked with BIU Group for over a decade, has around 250 donation banks that have helped generate more than £2.6 million for the charity.

Banks are sited in supermarket car parks, health and leisure centres, sporting clubs, pubs, shops and local authority waste recycling centres.

Wendy Yarney, charity partnerships director for BIU Group, said: “We are delighted to have joined forces with another excellent cause in an enterprise governed by our highly regarded Charity Partnerships Agreement, that sets out a guaranteed rate from the sale of every kilo.

“This will not only enable us to provide a regular, sustainable stream of income for the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, it will prevent tonnes of recyclable textiles going to landfill.”

Donations from the public are collected in BIU Group’s own patented recycling banks, which are made from reinforced steel and fitted with anti-theft devices to prevent goods from being stolen.

Donations are collected by BIU Group’s drivers then taken to depots to be sorted and graded before being sold to the company’s commercial partners across the UK and abroad.

BIU Group’s business plan recently featured in the 2018 Parliamentary Review, widely regarded as a blueprint for excellence.
