TOMRA, Parent of Sorting Specialist TITECH Has Acquired BEST

18 June 2012 Optical sorting specialist and parent company of TITECH, TOMRA Sorting (Oslo:TOM) has acquired fellow sorting firm, BEST. According to TOMRA, the acquisition of the Belgium based optical sorting specialist will complement TITECH's sensor based sorting platform for recycling and its ODENBERG brand for food industry. TOMRA Sorting said that it signed an agreement on May 31, 2012 with the owners of technology manufacturer BEST Kwadraat NV (BEST), located in Leuven to acquire 100% of the shares in BEST. The company added that it expected the transaction to close at the beginning of July this year. Merging platforms According to TOMRA, the acquisition of BEST represents an important step towards realising its strategy of strengthening its market position and product offering within sensor-based sorting. The company explained that BEST is a strong strategic fit and complements its existing technology portfolio through the addition of laser sorting technology whilst BEST has now access to all existing sensor technologies of TOMRA Sorting. TOMRA claimed that its customers will now benefit from a wider range of sensor technologies including laser, camera, fluo, LED, X-Ray, shortwave infrared, NIR/VIS and MIR spectroscopy.
