Waste plastic to oil recycling firm to close operations in Ontario
Ontario, Canada based waste to oil specialist JBI will close operations at its recycling facility in Thorold over the next few weeks as a result of cost cutting measures. This followed JBI last summer announcing it would be doubling its processing capacity using its Plastic 2Oil (P2O) technology to operate at a rate of up to 4000 lbs (1800 kg) of plastic feedstock per machine per hour. According to the firm, the closure of the facility would result in savings of approximately $800,000. The company’s said it has decided to not have a two-stage plastic delivery process in favor of dealing with “processor-ready plastics delivered directly to its fuel processing site in Niagara Falls, NY”. Richard Heddle, CEO at JBI, said: “Aggressively managing costs is a key component in positioning a company to eventually become cash flow positive. In keeping with the encouraging production data we’ve had to start the third quarter, these cuts were an important strategic move for us. We continue with the vision of procuring non-recycled streams of plastic that we can divert from landfill.” According to the company its P2O technology is capable of producing a range of quality fuels from waste plastic feedstocks including HDPE, LDPE and PP, while recycling offers the optimal treatment for PET. In the processor's main reactor liquefied plastic hydrocarbons are cracked into various shorter hydrocarbon chains and exit in a gaseous state. JBI said that its proprietary catalyst and process engineering enables it to capture an average of 86% of the hydrocarbon content of plastic. From the main reactor, the gases that are fuel oil and diesel are condensed and separated, then proceed into temporary fuel tanks. All of the gaseous 'light fractions' or off-gases (approx. 10-12% of process output), such as methane, ethane, butane and propane, exit the system and are used to fuel the furnaces, according to JBI. ### Read more JBI finishes third waste plastics to oil processor in New York JBI has finished assembly of its third Plastic2Oil (P2O) processor with it now undergoing initial plastic feeding, fuel production and process debugging… Waste Plastic to Oil Firm Permitted to Double Capacity in New York JBI has received a modification to its Solid Waste Management Permit for its Plastic2Oil technology allowing it to double capacity at its New York Facility
