Waste to energy plans get support in Ayutthaya, Thailand
Plans for a 300 tonne/day waste to energy plant in the province of Ayutthaya, Thailand have reportedly been supported by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). In a weekly television programme – Returning Happiness to the People – NCPO chief Prayuth Chan-Ocha said that the organisation had approved the Interior Ministry’s proposal to launch a pilot project to build an alternative power plant in Ayutthaya province. The NCPO leader said that the Ayutthaya province produces as many as 1200 tonnes of waste per day but only 700 tonnes can be properly processed. This has left 300,000 tonnes “waiting in landfills”, according to the Bangkok Post. Like other developing countries in Asia, Thailand is facing severe problems in the sphere of Municipal Solid Waste management. In 2009, the volume of waste being generated in Thailand reached about 15.1 million tonnes - approximately 41,410 tonnes per day. Of this only approximately 3.3 million tonnes, or 22% were separated and sent to recycling centres. As reported by the Thailand newspaper, villagers in Ayutthaya have signed a petition against the NCPO plan to relocate the facility, along with a landfill site, from tambon Baan Pom to tambon Mahaphram. ### Read more Deal to accelerate plasma gasification & fuel cell use in Thai waste to energy plants London based Waste2Tricity, which plans to use plasma gasification and fuel cell technology to deliver structured solutions to the waste to energy sector, signed a new co-operation agreement in Bangkok with AFC Energy plc and AlterNRG Corp through its Waste2Tricity International (Thailand) subsidiary… FEATURE: Thai Style Recycling Over recent decades the Thai government has made a concerted effort to improve the nation's waste management infrastructure and move away from the use of open dump sites… Thai fuel cell deal for plasma gasification waste to energy firm London based Waste2Tricity, which plan to implement use plasma gasification waste to energy technology in facilities which utilise fuel cells, has acquired the exclusive rights for AFC Energy hydrogen fuel cells for deployment in Thailand’s waste to energy sector…
