Company to Supply Furnace and Boiler Components to Baoan Waste to Energy Facility : Keppel Seghers to Supply Technology for World’s Largest Waste to Energy Plant in China

A contract to supply combustion technology to the world’s biggest waste to energy plant in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China has been secured Keppel Seghers Belgium N.V.

Under the $26.7 million contract the company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Infrastructure Holdings Pte Ltd, said that it will provide technology and services for Phase III of the Baoan waste to energy plant.

Keppel Seghers explained that the contract, awarded by repeat customer Shenzhen Energy Environment Engineering Co., Ltd., is for the expansion of the existing plant through the provision of equipment design and technical services for the plant's furnace and boiler components.

Scheduled to be completed by 2018, the Phase III expansion will add an additional 4675 tonnes per day, bringing the total capacity to 8875 tonnes per day of municipal waste, up from the current 4200 tonnes per day.

The technology supplier added that this will make the Baoan waste to energy plant the world's largest in terms of incineration capacity.

Keppel Seghers also provided the process design, technology and services for Phase I and II of the plant, which were completed in 2006 and 2013 respectively.

The company said that the latest contract win reinforces its position as one of the leading waste to energy technology importers in China.

Once the project is completed, Keppel Seghers' proprietary technology employed across China have a combined processing capacity of 10 million tonnes of municipal waste per year, equal to the amount generated by over 20 million citizens.

It will also have a combined generating capacity of 12,000 MWh of per day – claimed to reduce CO2 emissions by 6 million tonnes per year.
