Morgan Hill, California based lithium-iron phosphate automotive starter battery manufacturer, Shorai Inc., has launched an official battery recycling program.

According to the company while lithium batteries have a long lifespan, eventually they need to be replaced and disposed of in an environmentally conscious way. To enable it to achieve this the firm has partnered with a U.S. based recycler.

Under the scheme Shorai will collect free of charge all brands of lithium starter batteries, at its Morgan Hill, CA office. Along with the incentives offered to customers who recycle their lithium starter batteries, Shorai the company said that it will also offer incentives to customers who choose to recycle lead-acid batteries.

"We have always been aware of the importance of disposal and recycling of batteries. We hope our new program can raise awareness, and encourage the recycling of lithium starter batteries,” explained Phuc Lam, marketing director for Shorai.

“To date we have recycled over 5 tons of lithium starter batteries, and with this new program in place we will be able to do even more," continued Lam.
