German recycling equipment manufacturer, AUT, is to launch its brand new mobile Cross Flow Shredder at the world’s largest trade show for the waste and recycling industry.

Following a two year period of planning and developing AUT Anlagen- und Umwelttechnologie GmbH said that this is the first Cross Flow Shredding (CFS) to be available machine type “Cross Flow Shredder” (CFS) which is available in a mobile design.

The CFS is a chain mill type machine which the company said is an unconventional but efficient way of waste shredding as it uses flexible steel chains for material processing instead of knives or hammers.

AUT explained that since the early 1990s the machine has been available as a stationary device only. However, the new a mobile version of this machine was said to be a next generation of SQ Cross Flow Shredder.

According to the manufacturer the mobile CFS can do more than crush down different types of waste material, and is tailored to the needs of small to medium size recycling companies, as well as companies that operate more than one recycling yard or that receive input materials of changing composition.

The company explained that stationary waste treatment plants or machines are not economically or logistically viable solution for many companies in the recycling industry.

While mobile shredding and recycling devices have been around for some time, AUT said until today their use is still primarily limited to a pre-shredding function. The mobile CFS however has been designed to generate an output quality required for further sorting steps or even a final product of a specific quality.

Thus it was said to be able to assume the function of a complex recycling system which either follows a pre-shredding process or is used as a stand-alone unit.

The mobile Cross Flow Shredder uses the same operating principle of its predecessor and which AUT said makes it both an unfussy and efficient material treatment system while offering low wear costs. It was also said to enjoy the advantages of its bigger brother, the SQ Cross Flow Shredder which uses screens for material discharge.

The machine is equipped with screen plates in the lower part of the shredding chamber. By selecting screen plates with holes of a certain size, operators can actively determine the required maximum grain size of the output material before the shredding process and thus it enables the production of same-size output particles.

Operation

In use material is dropped onto a vibrating chute in order to ensure a dosed and continuous material charging into the CFS. Inside the CFS it is crushed.

The crushed material is then released through screen plates, falls on the belt conveyor right underneath the CFS and is conveyed to a foldable belt conveyor.

An over-belt magnetic separator that is fitted to the steel structure of the belt conveyor removes ferrous metal from the material mix.

Due to its design based on the standard dimensions and weight of freight and waste containers, AUT said that the the mobile Cross Flow Shredder further offers a hassle-free and quick change of operating site.
