Firm Will Build & Operates Recycling Facility to Process all Recyclables : FCC Secures $300m Recycling Contract in Dallas
Spanish environmental services and infrastructure firm, FCC, has been awarded a $300 million 15 year contract to build and operate a recycling facility that will process all recyclable waste in Dallas, Texas.
The company added that under the terms of the contract it will have the exclusive right to the material from all recyclable waste containers in the city of Dallas for the period awarded. There is also an extension option for a further 10 years.
A total of six companies took part in the tender announced by the Dallas' Sanitation Services Department. FCC said that it came out top in the technical criteria assessed in the tender.
After New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is the fourth largest metropolitan area of the US, with nearly 7 million in habitants, This makes it strategically significant for FCC’s environment business in the US.
Material Recycling Facility
In order to recycle the Dallas’s waste, FCC explained that it will build an automatic sorting plant using state-of-the-art sorting and classification techniques, including artificial vision, as well as optical and gravimetric sorting machines.
Once operational, the new facilities will sort all of the waste collected in the single recycling container into different categories.
The company added that the plant will recycle thousands of tonnes of paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metals, etc., and put those materials back on the market, thereby returning it to the production cycle.
In September this year FCC was awarded a contract in Orange County, Florida contract MSW collection and handling.
